Stocks expanded gaining streak and the prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX) crossed the 7,000-mark on Sunday for the first time.

DSEX went up 71.76 points or 1.02 percent to close at more than 7,052. It is the highest after its inception more than eight years ago in 2013.

Market experts said stocks continued making a new record after breaking previous one as investors are putting fresh funds on stocks as they hope the index will rise further.

Besides, the regulatory decision to keep the market open during the lockdown has been taken positively and pushed the market up, they added.

They also mentioned that many market-supportive measures including removal of the floor price restriction from all listed securities, lower returns from the money market, budgetary measures and several regulatory reforms to build a vibrant capital market has kept the market afloat.

The DSE 30 Index and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also hits a record high of 2,533 and 1,528, after rising 37.13 points and 19.98 points respectively.

The market capitalisation of the prime bourse also hit a fresh all-time high at Tk 5,692 billion on Sunday, crossing the previous high of Tk 5,637 billion recorded on Thursday.

The turnover stood at Tk 28.68 billion on the country’s prime bourse, up 16 percent over the previous day’s mark of Tk 24.74 billion.

The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 375 issues traded, 208 closed higher, 130 lower and 37 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor during the week.

Beximco topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk 1.83 billion changing hands.

It was followed by LafargeHolcim (Tk 662 million), Beximco Pharma (Tk 605 million), LankaBangla Finance (Tk 528 million) and Doreen Power (Tk 449 million).

ADN Telecom was the top gainer, posting a 10 percent rise while SEML FBLSL Growth Fund was the worst loser, losing 9.83 percent.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw a record growth with its selective category index (CSCX) gaining 141 points on Sunday to close at 12,324 points.

The All-Share Price Index (CASPI) of the CSE was higher by 234 points to close at 20,563 points for the first time.
