The market-capitalisation of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) hit all-time high to stand a record of Tk 5027.44 billion on Thursday thanks to the increased participation of investors despite maintaining lockdown.
Besides, the investors brought in almost Tk 435.04 billion fresh funds on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) during the last seven weeks.
On the other hand, the stock market maintained the rising trend for the last seven consecutive weeks despite maintaining lockdown.
DSEX, the core index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), added more than 730 points in the past seven consecutive weeks to close at 5,986 points.
Market analysts said the investors continued their buying spree in selective securities amid growing of investors’ confidence in the market.
They said lower returns on the money market, liquidity surpass in the banking sector, enlistment of some good securities, and proactive regulatory measures, are the reasons behind the present positive trend in the stock market.
They said the stocks witnessed an upward trend due to positive regulatory initiatives coupled with lowering the circuit breaker for several companies prompted investors to put fresh funds on stocks.
The stocks witnessed continuously upward trend on the back of positive macroeconomic indicators in the country like remittance, foreign reserve, and export growth coupled with better than expected earnings declarations, they added.
They mentioned lower return from the money market, easing virus worries coupled with an extension of margin loan cap implementation time for another six months, continued to lure investors to put fresh funds on stocks.
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 558.29 points or 10.62 percent to close at 5813.07 points in the past six consecutive weeks.
The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, went up 199.34 points to settle at 2189.73 points and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 87.35 points to close at 1,285 points since 8 April this year.
Market capitalisation of DSE also increased to a fresh all-time high at more than Tk 5,027 billion on Thursday, snapping the previous high of Tk 5,017 billion recorded on January 14, this year.
On the other hand, the port city bourse, the Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw a positive trend with its selective category index (CSCX) gaining 1264 points to close at 10454.53 points since 8 April 2021.
The All-Share Price Index (CASPI) of the CSE was higher by 2116 points to close at 17347.41 points during the time.
Of the 326 issues traded on CSE floor, 204 advanced, 90 declined and 32 remained unchanged on the CSE in the last week.
The port city's bourse traded 17.98 crore shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Tk 444 crore during the time.
