DSE loses Tk 5823cr last week

Market capitalization at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s premier bourse, went down by Tk 5823.07 crore in the last week to Tk 5,60,929.88 crore on Thursday, from Tk 5,66,752.96 crore on February 10.

Market analysts said the stock market witnessed a falling trend as cautious investors booked profit on sector-wise securities by selling their shares during the week.

Many investors remained on the sidelines, looking for opportunities to take new positions in prospective companies ahead of the December-end declarations, they said.

The DSEX, the prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, decreased by 94.59 points or 1.33 percent to close at 6,991.36 in the last week.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also went down by 23.64 points to finish at 2,573.85. However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) decreased 9.47 points to settle at 1,508.

The week's total turnover stood at Tk 59.67 billion on the DSE which was Tk 66.17 billion in the  week before.

The daily turnover averaged out at Tk 11.93 billion on the country's prime bourse, which was about 9.83 percent lower than the previous week's average of Tk 13.23 billion.

Of the 388 issues traded, 184 advanced, 166 declined and 38 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Fortune Shoes Limited was the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 5.01 billion changing hands. 

It was followed by Bangladesh Export Import Company (Tk 4.07 billion), Orion Pharma (Tk 2.46 billion), Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (Tk 2.25 billion) and SAIF Powertec  (Tk 1.10 billion).

Apex Foods was the top gainer, posting a 30.54 percent gain, while Union Insurance Company was the worst loser, shedding 16.49 percent.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw a rapid fall with its selective category index (CSCX) losing 1.51 percent in the last week to close at 12,283.45 points.

The All-Share Price Index (CASPI) of the CSE was also lower by 1.49 percent to close at 20,459.56 points.

Of the 356 issues traded, 87 advanced, 261 declined and 8 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

The port city's bourse traded 7.45 crore shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Tk 218 crore during the last week.
