Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) officials confirmed that an assistant engineer from the Waste Management Department has been fired on charges of financial corruption on Tuesday.
DSCC issued an official order removing AHM Abdullah Harun from his job. The order was signed by DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Monday night.
According to DSCC officials, AHM Abdullah Harun, Assistant Engineer of the Waste Management Department did not work as per approved design, had approved untraceable extra bills that had no genuine sources and caused great financial losses to DSCC.
While he was in charge as the Executive Engineer of the Waste Management Department, under the deposit work of the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project (PBRLP), he divided the work of removing waste, soil and rubbish accumulated on both sides of the 6 km railway line from Kamalapur Tt Para to Kadamtali into three groups. The bidders observed various irregularities in the tender and wide discrepancies between the scope of work and the fixed cost.
A total of 1.2 lakh tons of waste soil and rubbish has been seized there. The maximum amount of waste will amount to five thousand tons. The remaining 1.15 tons will be soil and rubbish, which is salable.
However, the cost of dumping soil and rubbish in the tender has been estimated at Tk 1.88 crore. In fact, since the soil and rubbish are salable, the government should not be spending any money in this case.
Through this, he has been involved in irregularities, corruption and anti-corporate and anti-public interest activities at various times. As a result of his actions, the financial loss of Dhaka South City Corporation and its image and reputation has been tarnished.
Due to all such allegations, AHM Abdullah Harun has been removed from his job in accordance with Rule 64 (2) of Dhaka South City Corporation Employees Employment Rules, 2019 to protect the public interest and the interest of the corporation. He will receive 90 days salary in cash as per rules.
