DSCC lauds casino crackdown

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Monday applauded the ongoing drive against the illegal casino business in Dhaka. He said, “The drive will continue. We support this type of drive and expect a successful completion of the ongoing one.” DSCC Mayor said this to reporters after attending a meeting with Denmark ambassador to Bangladesh Winnie Estrup Petersen at Nagar Bhaban (South) in the capital.

The Mayor said, “During the holy month Ramadan, I urged the clubs to abstain from liquor, gambling and other immoral activities. I also conducted campaign in this regard, but nothing was done. This time the drive has been fruitful, I laud it.” Replying to a query of a reporter about a DSCC councilor who engaged in casino business, the mayor said, “Two months ago, I sent a letter to the Local Government Ministry to take action against his irresponsible activities, but I did not see any progress.”

The Danish ambassador, with delegates, came to Nagar Bhaban to invite Mayor Khokon to attend C-40 conference, which will be held in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Later, a meeting was held among them. Mayors from 40 big cities in the world will attend the conference. At the meeting, held in a very pleasant environment, they discussed the common issues of mutual interest of the two cities.

Mentioning that Copenhagen stays at the top of livable and happy index, Sayeed Khokon said, “We will discuss various issues including climate change, technology and culture in the conference. By sharing our experience and collaboration, we will take decision that how we can make our own city more livable.”
