The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced a budget of Tk 3631.40 crore for the fiscal year 2019-2020. DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon announced the budget at a meeting at the Nagar Bhaban in the capital on Sunday. The revised budget of the fiscal year 2018-19 was Tk 1902.95 crore.
The revenue income in the new budget from own source is Tk 972.80 crore which include holding tax Tk 350 crore, market salami (possession fee) Tk 310 crore, trade license fees Tk 90 crore, assets handover fee Tk 105 crore, market fare Tk 35 crore and others. The government will provide Tk 50 crore as grant and Tk 75 crore as special allowance. Besides, Tk 2323.93 crore will come from government and private partnership aid based project.
The expenditure in the budget include: Salaries and allowances Tk 350 crore, road, footpath, infrastructure maintenance and development Tk 1151.61 crore, physical infrastructure building and development Tk 537.64 crore, power, energy, gas and water Tk 79 crore, expansion of Matwail sanitary landfill Tk 619.99 crore, development of waste management Tk 163.61 crore, Dhaka City Neighborhood Upgrading Project Tk 124.42 crore.
The allocation for mosquito controlling activities has been more than double compared to previous fiscal year. The budget has set aside Tk 43.30 crore for mosquito control programmes which was Tk 19.59 crore in 2018-2019 fiscal year amid the growing concern over the outbreak of mosquito-borne disease dengue. City councilors were also present.
Before announcing the Budget Mayor Sayeed Khokon said, “In last four years, DSCC built and renovated 669.91 kilometers roads, 113.16 kilometers footpaths, and 631.70 Kilometers canals while construction work on more 600 kilometers roads, 500 kilometers drain and 100 kilometers footpaths is going on in full swing.”
He also said, “The DSCC has set up some 40466 LED bulbs to light up the southern part of the city, which has been playing important role in controlling crimes at night and safety. Besides, the work to set up more LED lights at newly added 18 wards is going on.” On water-logging problem in city’s Shantinagar area, the mayor claimed that there will be no water-logging there in future.
The DSCC Mayor also talked about corporation’s success on removing all illegal billboards saying there were over 2,200 illegal billboards and around 30,000 banners/ festoon. He claimed that there is no billboards in the DSCC area and they have started working to introduce Digital LED Billboard so that business people can run their promotional activities legally.
