Drug trader killed in Teknaf gunfight

A suspected drug trader was killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Whykang Dailkhal Par area of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Nasir 30, son of Jalal Ahmmed, hailing from Whykang Purbo Satghariapara of the upazila.

Officer-In-Charge (OC) Teknaf Police Station Pradip Kumar Das told that law enforcers arrested Nasir in front of Teknaf Nhilla Girls School on Saturday night. Based on information, police launched drives at Daikhalpar area in the night. Sensing presence of law enforcers, Nasir’s associates opened fire on police forcing police to fire back in self-defense, triggering a gunfight.

Later, police recovered bullet hit Nasir and took him to Upazila Health Complex. Later he was shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead, the OC added. Three police members-- sub-inspector Ohid Ullah, Constable Abdur Shuukur and Md Hela--were injured in the gunfight, Pradip Kumar claimed.

Around 10,000 pieces of Yaba, 3 local made weapons, 12 rounds of cartridges were recovered from the spot, the OC said.
