Drug peddler killed in Sylhet gunfight

A drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Sylhet on Monday.

The gun battle took place at Mitrimahal village under Gowainghat  upazila of the district. The deceased was identified as Fazar Ali, son of late Abdul Gafur Badai of Gokhal Par village under Companiganj upazila.

Fazar Ali was a drug dealer. He had 21 cases field against him including charges of drug and children Repression, Abdul Ahad, Officer-in-Charge of Gowainghat Police Station told to media.

According to RAB source, Fazar Ali was detained on September 1. On Monday morning, RAB raided a drug den taking Fazar Ali along with them. 

At one point, drug dealers opened fire on RAB. RAB members also opened fire in self-defense. Fazar Ali was shot dead when he tried to escape.

Dead body was sent to morgue after taking it from MAG Osmani Medical College under their custody, SI Raziullah of Gowainghat police station. Moniruzzaman, additional director of Media Wing of RAB-9, was called over phone, but he did not receive calls.
