A suspected drug dealer was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the city’s Khilkhet area on early Monday, reports BSS.

The deceased was identified as Mizanur Rahman Mintu alias Megha Mintu, 34.  Senior Assistant Director of RAB’s Legal Aid and Media Wing and Senior ASP Md Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan confirmed the matter. Later, the RAB personnel recovered a shooter-gun, two shotguns, 10 cartridges and a huge number of contraband yaba tablets from the spot, he said. On secret information that a group of armed goons and drug paddlers were staying in the Swadesh Properties area of Khilkhet, a team of RAB-1 raided the area around 1:15am, Mizanur said. Sensing the presence of RAB members, the drug peddlers opened fire targeting the RAB personnel as soon as the RAB team reached the spot, he said, adding the gunfight took place when the RAB members were forced to use guns in self-defence against the backdrop of armed goons’ gunfire. Mintu suffered gunshot wounds during the gunfight while RAB arrested him after the gunfight and took Mintu to Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, the ASP said. A RAB member was injured during the gunfight, he added.
