Dulal Mia (45), a suspected drug dealer, has been sent to jail after being arrested with 2,050 Yaba tablets during a special police operation in Melandha upazila of Jamalpur.
On Sunday afternoon, he was produced before the court in connection with a case under the Narcotics Control Act. The court ordered that he be remanded to jail custody.
Dulal, son of the late Shamsul Sardar of Char Khabulia village in Mahmudpur Union, was apprehended on Saturday evening (13 September) from outside the lease office of the goat market in Melandha Bazar. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested him while he was preparing to sell the contraband tablets, which have an estimated street value of around Tk 615,000.
The operation was carried out under the direction of Jamalpur Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam and the supervision of Melandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam. SI Sajedul Islam Khan, ASI Shital Pal, ASI Sabuj Mia, and Constable Sohel were involved in the operation.
Police reported that Dulal’s wife, Mina Begum, managed to flee the scene. Efforts are underway to arrest her and another suspect, Fakrul (48), named during Dulal’s initial confession.
