Drug dealer killed in ‘gunfight’ with Police

A drug dealer was allegedly killed in a gunfight with Police in Chougachha upazila of Jashore on Sunday early morning. Police recovered 3 pistols, bullet shells and 100 bottles of phensedyl from the scene.

The deceased drug peddler was identified as Zahurul Islam, 40, son of Golam Hossain of Andulia village of the upazila. Chougachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rifat Khan Rajiv claimed that receiving a secret information of a large shipment of drugs was being moved to Dhaka, policemen took position at Ballavpur School ground. 

Being aware of the presence of the Police the drug dealers opened fire on the police. Drug dealer Zahurul Islam died on the spot when police opened fire for self-defense. Police later recovered the body and sent it to Jashore General Hospital Morgue.

He further said that Zahurul has been charged with ten drug and extortion cases in different police stations including Chaugacha.
