The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested an alleged professional drug dealer with Tk2,49,574 in cash and narcotics in Dhaka's Hatirjheel area, RAB said on Sunday.
The arrested man was identified as Moazzem Hossain Maruf, 33, son of Nur Hossain Khan, from Runshi in Bakerganj, Barishal.
A team of RAB-3 conducted the operation around 8:35pm on Sunday at 10-G, Mirbagh Kacha Bazar area under Hatirjheel Police Station and arrested Maruf, according to a press release.
Two mobile phones allegedly used by him were also recovered during the operation, it said.
According to the case statement and preliminary interrogation, Maruf had allegedly been involved in selling yaba tablets in Hatirjheel and other parts of Dhaka for a long time.
RAB said he used an unusual method to conduct the drug trade and kept yaba tablets in his possession for sale.
The elite force said the suspect had committed an offence under Section 36(1), Schedule 10(Ka) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, by possessing yaba tablets for the purpose of sale.
RAB said legal proceedings had been initiated against him.
The force added that it has been conducting operations against drug dealers and other criminals as part of its efforts to maintain law and order and prevent crime.
