A drug addict son has reportedly beaten to death his mother on Saturday night at Shinglabo area of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj.
The deceased was identified as Delowara Begum, 55, wife of late Abdus Shohban of Shinglabo village of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj.
Soon after the incident, locals rushed to the spot and captured drug addict Saiful Islam, 32, son of slain Delowara Begum and Abdus Shohban couple. The locals handed over the youth to police.
Police said that Saiful was a drug addict and earlier his mother admitted him to a rehab center to return to a civil life but he didn’t give up his drug consuming habit.
Quoting the locals, police added that Saiful demanded money from his mother on Saturday night.
His mother denied to pay money. At the time, Saiful became angry and took a hail-stone and hit his mother's head. She died at the time.
Alongside the body, police also recovered a hail-stone from inside Delowara Begum’s house. The body was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupganj police station Mahamudul Hasan confirmed the matter. He said taht they arrested Saiful. He is a drug addict and he killed his mother due to failing to extract money from his mother.
A murder case was recorded with Rupganj police in this regard.
