The driver of a covered van was killed as the vehicle turned turtle after being hit with a tree at Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Acting In-Charge of Shahpori Outpost of Highway Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Mostofa Kamal said the accident occurred on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf road in Kashirbeel area under Razapalong union under Ukhiya Upazila of the district at 5:30am. The name of the deceased could not be known. However, he was aged around 28-30.
Quoting locals SI Mostofa Kamal said a goods laden Teknaf bound covered van hit a roadside tree as its driver lost his control over the steering. The covered van fell on a roadside ditch, leaving the driver critically injured. Locals rescued him and took him to Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared him dead.
Police assumed that the driver might have fell asleep and lost the control. So the accident occurred. Police are trying to know his identity. The body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Zila Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
