In view of the month of month of Ramadan the government has decided to check and prevent sale of unhygienic food items which are not safe for public consumption. The government feels that it is essential to control quality of iftaar food so that people can safely buy and consume food items available on the streets and restaurants.

Dhaka South City Corporation’s Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokan on Tuesday inaugurated the drive with his team inspecting Iftaar items in Chawckbazaar and many other parts of the city as part of the drive. It is widely noticed that vendors as well as some restaurants are engaged in preparing and cooking food which are often highly unhygienic due to exposure to street pollution as well as mixing leftover stale food from the previous days.

Many people in the past are known to have fallen sick from consuming such unhealthy iftaar food items. Vendors or even restaurant owners literally defy rules under public food safety regulations.
