Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) are conducting rescue drive to find a person who went missing after MV Mizan and MV Era Star collided in Karamjal area of Mongla on Friday.
The missing person was identified as Lokman Haoladar, 18, resident of Ruyo Kata village under Dakop Thana in Khulna district.
Media Officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters, Lieutenant Colonel Khandaker Munif Taqi, confirmed the matter on Saturday noon.
He said that the coal carrying vessel MV Mizan and LPG Tanker MV Era Star collided head on in Kormojol area near Mongla Port on Friday night. At that time, the front part of MV Mizan was damaged and the ship almost sank. When the two ships collided, another fishing boat was also hit. As a result, a fisherman fell into the water and went missing.
After the incident, Bangladesh Coast Guard West Zone was informed about it through Mongla Port authorities. Two patrol boats of Coast Guard immediately went to the spot and began rescue drive.
Lt Colonel Khandaker Munif Taqi also said that two patrol teams of Coast Guard are conducting search and rescue drive to find the missing fisherman.
