Chattogram District Administration have started conducting drives to stop the use of polythene as the production, marketing, and use of harmful polythene is going to be banned across the country from November 1.
A mobile court conducted a drive at Pahartoli Bazar on Wednesday with the assistance of the Department of Environment and Metropolitan Police against polythene, which is banned from selling. Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Kattali Circle Land Office and Executive Magistrate Arafat Siddequee conducted the mobile court.
During the drive, two individuals named Md Shahadat Hossain and Abdul Kader were detained for stocking and selling the banned polythene. While being interrogated, they confessed to their wrongdoing and said they will not sell the banned polythene in the future. Inspector of Department of Environment Rumpa Das filed two complaints against them in the mobile court. As the complaints were proved, Md Shahadat was fined Tk 5,000 and Abdul Kader was fined Tk 20,000 under Bangladesh Environment Protection Act 1995 (amended 2010).
At the same time, 400 kg of polythene were seized from the two shops and the in-charge officer of the Department of Environment was instructed to resolve it according to the regulations.
The product price at the Pahartoli Bazar was monitored during the drive. A shopkeeper named Alamgir was fined Tk 20,000 under the Consumers Rights Protection Act 2009 for not keeping the price list of daily products.
This type of drive by the district admiration will continue.
