A wave of grief has swept through the village of Kunia in Chitalmari Upazila, Bagerhat, following the tragic death of Fatema Akter (9), one of the victims of the Uttara aircraft crash. Fatema, a Class Three student at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, was the daughter of expatriate Bani Amin and his wife Rupa. Her father, working in Kuwait, returned immediately upon hearing the devastating news.

Fatema’s aunt Yasmin Akter tearfully shared, “She dreamt of becoming a doctor. We all had that dream for her.

She was quiet, brilliant, and the apple of everyone’s eye.” According to her family, she was waiting for her coaching class despite school being closed that day.

The family initially couldn’t locate her after the crash but later found her at CMH in Dhaka around 7:30 PM. Her body was brought back to Khulna by 3:00 AM and laid to rest at the Kunia Qaumi Madrasah graveyard after a funeral led by her cousin Aminul Islam, who said, “No words can describe the pain.”

On Monday at 1:18 PM, a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training jet crashed into a Milestone School building, causing multiple casualties, including several students.
