Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is set to hold meetings this (Sunday) evening with senior leaders of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP) at his official residence ‘Jamuna’, amid the ongoing political situation in the country.

The meetings will begin with Jamaat-e-Islami at 4:30pm, followed by NCP at 6:30pm, and BNP at 7:30pm, Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary Fayez Ahammad told UNB.

The meeting with BNP was earlier scheduled for 3:00pm.

But, due to a pre-scheduled discussion programme marking the party’s founding anniversary at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir requested a change in timing. The Chief Adviser’s office later rescheduled the meeting to 7:30pm.

“The Chief Adviser has invited us for talks. We think the discussion will cover the current evolving situation, political crisis and election-related issues,” said BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed.

The political tensions in Bangladesh escalated following a clash on Friday night between activists of Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad.

During the incident, Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur was seriously injured after a baton charge by the army and police.

In response, the interim government decided to launch a judicial probe into the attack on Nurul Haque Nur.

Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said their party’s four-member delegation will attend the meeting at 4:30pm.

NCP’s senior joint convener Ariful Islam Adib said they will join the meeting and discuss the current political situation.
