Prominent nuclear scientist late Dr M. A. Wazed Miah has been described as an example of selfless, non-propagandistic, exemplary life, said the Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.
After prayers at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital on Monday afternoon, the minister said this in a Milad-Mahfil on the occasion of the 13th death anniversary of Dr M. A. Wazed Miah. Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Fazle Nur Taposh, former Member of Parliament Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League President Bir Muktijoddha Abu Ahmed Monnafi, Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League President Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, Dhaka South Awami League General Secretary Md Humayun Kabir, Dhaka North Awami League General Secretary SM Mannan Kochi and others participated in prayers.
After paying respect to the memory of Dr M. A. Wazed Miah, the Information and Broadcasting Minister said, "Since I have worked for several years as special assistant to the Awami League president, I also have some memories of him. He was a recluse, unassuming, and reserved.
Many did not know that he was the husband of the Prime Minister, the eldest daughter of the father of the Nation. The man, known by his own name, was chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, a researcher, and his research books were used as textbooks in India.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said that after the horrific assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib on August 15, 1975, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina and the youngest daughter Sheikh Rehana were brave and courageous. Dr M. A. Wazed Miah did his best to take care of them.
Dr Hasan Mahmud added, "Dr M. A. Wazed Miah fell ill and could not recover. I wish peace to his soul.”
Later, when reporters questioned BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi's remarks about 'Obaidul Quader being BNP's advisor', the minister said, 'We want the welfare of BNP. Even if we want the welfare of BNP, they themselves want their demise. The steps they have taken or are taking at different times are suicidal. The general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League has advised the BNP to avoid the path of suicide which is the right advice. Now it is up to the BNP to decide whether they will accept it or not.
In response to the statement of the BNP secretary general, the BNP will not go to the polls without the resignation of the government, Hasan said, "We want the BNP to come to the polls. Let them compete with us, let them test their popularity. But the BNP is scared of the election.
In fact, there is a saying 'If you don't know how to dance, the yard is crooked', this is applicable to BNP. I hope the BNP will overcome the election fear and participate in the election. '
