Professor Dr Soumitra Shekhar Deb of Dhaka University’s Bangla Department has joined Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University as the new Vice-Chancellor on Sunday.
Through this, he took charge as the 6th Vice Chancellor of this University. When the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor arrived at the campus, he was given a warm welcome by the treasurer Professor Jalal Uddin and Registrar agriculturist Md Humayun Kabir. Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor. Md Nazrul Islam, Proctor Professor Ujjwal Kumar Prodhan, Student Counseling and Director of the Department of Instruction Tapan Kumar Sarkar, University Branch Chhatra League leaders and other teachers, officials, employees and students were present at the welcoming programme.
After joining, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor paid homage to Bangabandhu and National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam by laying wreaths at their monuments. After that the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor met with Heads of departments of the university, teachers, officers, staff and students in a meeting in the conference room of the university. There he exchanged greetings with everyone.
The newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor during that time, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the President, Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Deputy Minister of Education and others.
Professor Dr Soumitra Shekhar Deb emphasizing academic activities by the management of the university, said that if he is given a peaceful campus environment, he hopes to make this university to achieve a good position in world ranking.
Professor Dr Soumitra Shekhar Deb held the post of the Director of ‘Nazrul Research Centre’ of Dhaka University and Advisor of TSC. He got first class in both honors and postgraduate examinations. At the age of only twenty-nine, he received a Ph.D Degree from Rabindranath Tagore University, India. He is currently engaged in post-doctoral research at a university in India.
He joined Chittagong University in 1996 as a lecturer in Bangla In the section. The following year (1997) he was appointed to the permanent post in the Bangla Department of Dhaka University
Came as a lecturer and has been working there ever since. Russia, China, including India
He also taught Bangla in several important universities of several countries including Russian, China and India.
He has participated in the organization of educational programmes in several national institutions Including National Curriculum and Textbook Board.
