Dr Shirin Sharmin nominated as JS Speaker

Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has been nominated as the Speaker of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS), said a JS press release in Dhaka on Wednesday.

With this nomination, Dr Shirin is going to be elected as the JS Speaker for the record fourth consecutive term. On nomination as the Speaker, Deputy Speaker Md 

Shamsul Haque Tuku and Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury congratulated her.

Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury became the country’s first female Speaker in 2013.

She succeeded Abdul Hamid who became President following the death of President Md Zillur Rahman. 

A lawyer by profession and a human rights activist Shirin entered Parliament for the first time as an MP from one of the reserved seats for women. She obtained PhD from Essex University in the United Kingdom.

With an outstanding academic career with first class first in LLM, LLB from University of Dhaka, Dr Shirin was born on October 6, 1966. Her father Rafiqullah Chaudhury was the Personal Secretary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
