Dr Md Mashiur Rahman becomes new NU VC

Former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the National University (NU) and Professor of the Department of Sociology at the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr Md Mashiur Rahman has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the National University for the next 4 years by Chancellor of the University President Md Abdul Hamid.

The Ministry of Education on Sunday issued a notice for the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.

The notice said, “With the approval of the President, as per Section 11 (1) of the National University Act, 1992, the Professor of the Department of Sociology, Dhaka University, Dr Md Mashiur Rahman has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the National University, Gazipur for the next four years.”

Dr Md Mashiur Rahman passed both SSC and HSC examinations in the first class. He also passed both the B.Sc (Hons) and MSS examinations in the first class from the Sociology Department of Dhaka University. 

He holds a PhD from the University of Lund in Sweden. He completed his post-doctoral research from the same university.

Dr Md Mashiur Rahman started his teaching career at Chattogram University’s Department of Sociology. His PhD dissertation was published by Lund University in Sweden. 

Besides, many of his research articles have been published in various journals at home and abroad. He has presented papers at international seminars in various countries, including the United States, Sweden, Denmark and China. 

Dr Md Mashiur Rahman was born in Mirhar village under Nalchiti upazila of Jhalokathi district. From the very beginning of Mashiur Rahman'sschool  life, Mashiur Rahman have been involved in various activities including red scouting, debates and so on. His father, Md Tofael Hossain is a freedom fighter.
