Dhaka Premier League (DPL) is one of the livelihoods of the country's cricketers. However, the clubs are facing huge financial crisis to run their activities in the next season.
The cricketers, who have seen the change of professional football league, have doubted that the money in this Dhaka Premier League will be the same.
Abahani Limited has been forming expensive teams in this tournament for several seasons. Most of the cricketers of the national team used to play in this club with lucrative deals.
However, this time Abahani has to withdraw from the path of building a heavyweight team for the next season.
The cricket manager of the club, Sheikh Masud Iqbal Mamun, said, “We have talked to the cricketers about this issue. They verbally assured us that they want to play for Abahani even if the amount of money is less.
The voice of an unnamed cricketer who has played for Abahani for a few seasons also echoes the same tone. 'Though I have not been personally contacted yet. But I heard about it. I have been with this club for a long time. They paid us well.”
Standing next to If we are not with them today in the day of danger? I can't leave. Even if the remuneration is low, I have no problem playing.
Decreasing amount of money is definitely disappointing. But now there is nothing to do.
Abahani spent Tk 70-80 lakh on one cricketer in 16 matches in one season. How to reduce this amount, what can be done, the DPL officials are supposed to sit after the busyness of BPL.
Shinepukur, which caused chaos last season, will have to go through the financial crisis regarding the formation of the team. The source of financing for Shinepukur, known as Abahani's 'shadow party', is also the same.
Marshall Ayub, the well-known face of the country's domestic cricket, who played for the club last season, said, "Experienced and inexperienced, we all look forward to the time of DPL throughout the year. Uncertainty over the formation of clubs from that point is certainly frustrating. But we want to play even with some concessions. We are keeping this preparation mentally.
Like Abahani-Shainpukur, two teams of Gazi Group and Gazi Group Cricketers and Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club are chasing the fear. A cricketer who played for Gazi Group cricketers last season said, “There is a change in the country, there is nothing to do now. We have to adapt and play.”
Sohel Rana Babu, the manager of Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club, spoke of confidence in the midst of doubts, 'We now have two teams. One team is relegated (Gazi Tires). At the end of last season we formed a shadow team. Most of those who played well are in that team. Cricketers are also ready. They said that they want to play even if the salary is reduced. The budget will decrease. All parties will decrease. But we are staying.”
Commenting on the matter, Debbrata Paul, General Secretary of the cricketers' organization QUAB, said, “The cricketers have given concessions considering the overall situation of the country in the BPL. If there is such a situation in the DPL, we will talk to them and fix it. Whatever the discussion, the cricketers have lowered their expectations and prepared to enter the field in the next season.
