Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially released Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo from the T20I duty. BCB boss Nazmul Hasan Papon said to the media on Monday after a meeting with the South African.

However, Domingo will continue to be the head coach in Tests and ODIs till November 2023.

Domingo has received a lot of fuss in recent months, particularly with his T20I series defeat to Zimbabwe last month.

The board president has earlier indicated that Bangladesh are “trying to separate” roles and that Domingo might stay on as the Test and ODI coach. Papon also had said a couple of days ago that the BCB was looking to make “drastic changes” ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup

The BCB has already made a new appointment, naming Sridharan Sriram as the team’s technical consultant for the tournament in the UAE.

Bangladesh has won only 19 of 46 T20Is under Domingo.

While Domingo will not be on the T20I coaching panel, the board will allow him to continue as the head coach in the other two formats for the time being.

He will be in charge of the players who are not on the T20I squad. The South African will also be in Bangladesh for the longer edition domestic tournaments, according to the BCB president.
