DoE holds ToT training in noise pollution control

The Department of Environment (DoE) arranged a ToT training (training of trainers) to control the noise pollution in the country.  

The event took place at the auditorium of the DoE at Agargaon in the city on Saturday (September 28) with 120 trainers and officials from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Imam Training Academy of the Islamic Foundation. The DoE arranged the event under its project- Integrated and Partnership Project on Noise Pollution Control.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; attended the event as the chief guest with Dr Abdul Hamid, director general of the DoE; in the chair. Dr Farhina Ahmed, secretary of the ministry; also spoke at the event as the special guest. 

Syeda Masuma Khanom, director (joint secretary) of DoE; Dr. Husne Qumer Osmany, a professor of ENT Department of Dhaka Medical College; Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, director (law and estate) of Islamic Foundation; Sheikh Mahbub-e-Rabbani, director (training) at BRTA; Md Rezzakul Haider, director of Imam Training Academy of Islamic Foundation; were present at the event. 

Speaking at the event, Syeda Rizwana Hasan said, “We must live in a less noisy country to build a safe future. Many drivers disturb the people nearby by honking horns. If we don’t honk unnecessarily in buses, trucks or cars, it is possible to prevent many people from losing their health.” 

She also said, “All the vehicles actually start honking from red light to green light. It should be stopped. Before blowing the horn, we should think whether it is necessary. All drivers should be made aware not to honk. Especially, the noise made by rickshaws while taking children to school can sometimes cause ear problems.” 

The Environment Adviser further said that Islam teaches to speak softly and not loudly. As per the Islam, one should speak in such a way as not to cause annoyance to people. “We think that the louder we speak, the stronger we are. Actually speaking rationally is the real power. It is possible to bring about change in the society and the state only by making changes at our personal level,” she added.
