Doctor crisis at UZ hospital

Despite acute crisis of doctors and nurses, the 51-bed Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex is providing services to thousands of people of the upazila. 

The Sujanagar Health Complex is being run with seven doctors against 4 lakh people for long. It becomes very difficult to serve the people. 23 posts are vacant among 30 from surgery, anesthesia, medicine, cardio, ENT, ophthalmic, gynecology and child and others important departments. Having posts of 10 junior consultants every post is vacant. The upazila consists of 10 unions and one municipality with 4 lakh people.

Upazila Health Officer Dr Rafiqul Islam said, including him, a total of seven doctors are serving there with difficulties. He said that tried to serve with the integrity, but they are to fight a tough battle to serve those locality with few doctors. Sometimes they have to go on emergency leave or on training. 

In this circumstances, Locals urged the authorities concerned to take necessity step to eradicate this problem as soon as possible.  

In 2002, the hospital was improved to 50-bed from 31 to ensure the health services of that locality.
