From now on, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will work jointly with the Metrorail authorities to alleviate waterlogging on the road from Mirpur No. 10 to Shewrapara. DNCC has called for tenders to clean the drains under the main road.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said this while visiting Kazipara and Shewrapara on Tuesday.
The mayor said that the condition of Mirpur 10 to Shewrapara road and the metro rail construction is known to all. The rule is that when any such work is done somewhere, it is handed over to the concerned authorities on that road.
The road was handed over to the metro rail authorities to ensure compliance such as keeping the sidewalks of the road suitable for movement, regularly repair the drains under the sidewalks etc. WASA was responsible for the master drain under the main road. However, their term has expired and the work is not complete
The mayor said, "It has been decided that from now on, what needs to be done on these roads has to be discussed with the city corporation. Metrorail and DNCC will work together.”
He said that they are also progressing with work that WASA has left. In the meantime, tenders worth Tk 36 crore have been invested from the city corporation's own funds.
The mayor believes that the metro rail authorities have violated the conditions as well in the issue of compliance.
He said that they have violated the conditions to ensure compliance and this cannot be allowed to happen again. From now on, they will have to discuss with DNCC regarding their actions.
Afsar Uddin Talukder, Project Director of the Metro Rail Project and senior officials of the City Corporation were present during the visit.
