The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) starts combing operation today (Tuesday) to thwart spreading of dengue and destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes. To strengthen the ongoing anti-dengue drive, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam will inaugurate the combing operation and special cleanliness programme at Gulshan Fazle Rabbi Park in the capital.
On the other hand, DNCC’s authority concerned has continued their anti-dengue drive through larviciding, fogging and fining owners of different households, marketplaces etc. for their negligence regarding mosquito breeding places. As part of anti-dengue drive, a mobile court led by DNCC on Monday fined Mohakhali bus terminal authorities as larvae of Aedes mosquitos were found in the terminal premises, according to DNCC sources.
During the drive, the bus terminal authorities were fined Tk 500,000 as Aedes mosquitos were found in worn-out tyres. DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam was present during the operation of the mobile court. DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said, “Aedes mosquitoes breed in abandoned tyres. I told all authorities repeatedly to remove these tyres. But, no one did that. So we have fined according to law.”
Mayor also said, “The place, where the abandoned tyres were found is out of terminal area. Bus owners told me that WASA is the owner of this place.” Later, Mayor Atiqul visited the head office of PARTEX group and its premises and found the favourable conditions for mosquitoes to breed. DNCC mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Sajid Anwar in presence of the Mayor found abandoned tyres, plastic containers, and abandoned motorcycle at a cow farm of the PARTEX group.
The mobile court fined the PARTEX Group authorities Tk 2 lakh for finding Aedes mosquito larvae there. Earlier, the mobile court of DNCC on Saturday fined the owner of a building Tk 2 lakh after finding Aedes mosquito larvae in a dirty rooftop at Gulshan-2 in the capital. DNCC Executive Magistrate Sajid Anwar led the drive at road no 44 and found Aedes larvae amid generally favourable conditions for mosquitoes to breed.
The mobile court found many clay pots filled with water, rejected cans, commode and weeds on the rooftop. The magistrate fined him under Local Government City Corporation act 2009. The magistrate said their drives will continue.
