DNCC to give ‘Mayor Award’ and ‘Mujib Barsha Award’

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is going to introduce two annual awards for encouraging better citizen services by its wards. The Mayor Aaward and Mujib Barsha Award would be given respectively for best ward of the corporation and for best citizen service providing ward of the corporation. The Award will be given to increase competition in proving different citizen services including mosquito control and cleanliness.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam revealed the information at a views-exchange meeting styled ‘Dengue and Chikungunya Disease Career Aedes Mosquito Control’ at Gulshan Nagar Bhaban in the Capital on Monday. DNCC councilors, various non-governmental organisations engaged in dengue and chikungunya controlling, representatives from different strata of society including media participated in the meeting.

Mayor said, “There is no alternative to public awareness to prevent dengue and chikungunya diseases. To create awareness, DNCC will conduct a campaign holding meetings in every area and ward of the corporation. The campaign has already been started social media. By time, awareness meetings would be held at different educational institutions, mosques, and with various social and cultural organisations.”

At the meeting, noted columnist and human rights activist Syed Abul Maksud said, “About 90 percent of the works to be done for controlling Dengue and Chikungunya has to executed by the city people. Aedes Mosquito can be kept under the control if all city dwellers help the mayor. Everyone, including our young society, must be included in this programme.”

In the meeting, Bangladesh National Cricket Team's former captain Akram Khan said, “The players of Bangladesh National Cricket Team will be beside DNCC to raise public awareness about Dengue and Chikungunya.”
