A week-long special operation will be conducted from tomorrow Sunday to control the Aedes mosquito that carries dengue disease. Ten teams will conduct this campaign in ten regions of Dhaka North City Corporation. Mobile Courts will be run by Executive Magistrates. Legal action will be taken if Aedes larvae are found.
DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said these things in a public awareness campaign to control the outbreak of Aedes mosquitoes in Dakshinkhane Madhya Azampur area under Ward No. 50 in the capital Uttara this Saturday (September 10) morning.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam warned of strict action if Aedes larvae are found in the water accumulated in homes, houses and offices. Stricter measures will be taken. If water accumulates anywhere inside, outside, or around your house or establishment, dispose of it immediately. Stay safe from dengue, keep your family and neighbors safe. Instead of being punished for cultivating larvae at home, get rewarded for destroying the source of the larvae.'
DNCC Mayor said, 'It was thought that dengue could take a terrible form this year compared to other times. Therefore, before the onset of the monsoon season, we have been carrying out various programs including making people aware of dengue control since the beginning of the year. However, statistics show that the number of dengue patients this year is much lower than in the past. Due to our effective measures, we have been able to control the dengue situation in the Dhaka North City Corporation area so far. The number of dengue patients in our country is very less compared to many neighboring countries. Our goal is to control dengue completely.'
According to the information of the health department, there are dengue patients in several houses in Madhya Azampur area of Dakshinkhan, Ward No. 50. DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam visited the area on site. It has been seen that many buildings are under construction in this area. Water has accumulated in several under-construction buildings. Aedes larvae were found in one. At the time, the DNCC Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate found Aedes larvae in the building under construction. Zulkar Nayan conducted a mobile court and collected a fine of Rs.
Addressing the city residents, Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam said, 'It is not possible for the city corporation alone to completely control dengue. People's cooperation is very important in this regard. With the sincere cooperation of the people, we were able to remove the waste of Qorbani in just 12 hours last Eid. With people's cooperation, we can control dengue completely. In their homes, flower tubs, unused tires, tin shells, open packets of chips, open containers of various types, roof or anywhere else should be carefully observed.
Calling for building a social movement for health, the mayor said, 'There is no alternative to a healthy environment for health. And to ensure a healthy environment, people from all levels of society should be involved in the social movement related to cleaning activities.
After campaigning in Azampur area, DNCC Mayor participated in campaigning in Nikunj-1 area.
In the campaign, Mayor Atiqul Islam went around various streets in Azampur and Nikunj areas and distributed awareness leaflets on dengue control to the public and made them aware by miking.
Aedes larvae were found in two houses during raids in Nikunj area. Two regular cases were filed in Khilkhet police station as the owners of the two houses were staying abroad.
Among others in the campaign, DNCC Chief Health Officer Bri. General Md. Jobaidur Rahman, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore SM Sharif-ul Islam, Ward No. 17 Councilor Md. Ishaq Miah, Ward No. 50 Councilor DM Shamim, Councilors of Reserved Constituencies Hashina Bari Chowdhury and Zakia Sultana and Nikunj-1 Kalyan Samiti. President Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and others were present.
