DNCC okays Tk 4,506cr budget for 2020-21 fiscal year

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Monday approved a Tk 4,506.75 crore budget for 2020-21 fiscal year, with an allocation of Tk 70 crore for controlling the mosquito menace in the corporation area, reports BSS.

“Development activities have given priority in the budget for fiscal year 2020-21 . . . mosquito eradication, waste management and development of newly included wards will get priority,” said Mayor Atiqul Islam while placing the budget at the second board meeting held at a community centre in Mirpur.

The board approved the budget unanimously, said a media release yesterday.
At the beginning of the meeting LGRD and cooperatives minister Md Tajul Islam made a brief speech over online promising to build a beautiful Dhaka with cooperation of all quarters. The participants observed silence for a minute to pay respect to those who died of COVID-19 including former ministers Mohammed Nasim and Sahara Khatun, elder brother of DNCC mayor Engineer Shafiqul Islam.

The meeting also approved the 2, 608.60 crore revised budget for fiscal year 2019-20.
In the budget for fiscal year 2020-21, Mayor Atiqul Islam has targeted to mobilize revenue worth Tk 961.65 crore. The corporation will mobilize Tk 12 crore from other sources, he said, adding that Tk 150 crore will come as grant from the government while Tk 3, 010. 85 crore is expected from projects funded by the government and foreign sources.

The mayor kept Tk 100 crore for garbage management work.
He said the corporation increased its development expenditure, considering the newly included 18 wards. He said DNCC kept Tk 3,660 crore in the current fiscal as development expenditures.

Of the expenditures, the highest Tk 286 crore will be spent on road and traffic infrastructure development and maintenance.
It also allocated Tk 4.25 crore for graveyard, cremation ground development and maintenance purposes, Tk 3.50 crore for the city’s park and playground development works. DNCC also allocated Tk 18.20 crore for environmental development activities like tree plantation, beautification, construction of public toilet, landfill development and maintenance, and construction and maintenance of secondary transfer station.

Mayor Atiqul Islam urged ward councilors to lay emphasis on collecting holding taxes. He said at least 1,000 saplings will be planted in each ward during the current rainy season.
DNCC chief executive office Md Abdul Hai, secretary Rabindrasree bBarua and other officials were present at the meeting.
