DMP warns against anarchy

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Habibur Rahman on Wednesday vowed that police will take stern measures if any anarchy takes place in the capital Dhaka in name of political movement.

He made this remark after holding a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal at Election Commission office in the city.

The DMP chief said, “We shall do whatever is necessary to ensure safety of the city dwellers.”

If there is a peaceful movement, we shall cooperate, he assured, he added.

He further said “I am here to supervise the enhanced security measures in anticipation of the announcement of the schedule for the 12th parliamentary polls.”

“We will take legal action against anyone attempting to incite a chaotic situation in the area,” he warned.

The police commissioner participated in a meeting with the commission to discuss security initiatives in preparation for announcing schedule of the 12th parliamentary polls.

Four election commissioners -- Brig Gen Md Ahsan Habib Khan (retd), Rashida Sultana, Md Alamgir, Md Anisur Rahman and Secretary Md Jahangir Alam were also took part at the meeting.
