DMP commissioner warns against any trouble to disrupt DUCSU polls

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on Monday warned that stern action will be taken against any attempt to disrupt the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Daksu) election.

“We are fully prepared to extend all possible cooperation in line with the directives of the Election Commission. Anyone trying to thwart the DUCSU election will face strict legal measures,” he said while presiding over a coordination meeting on overall security and traffic management ahead of the polls at the DMP Headquarters conference room on Monday.

The DMP Commissioner emphasised that coordinated efforts of all government agencies are vital to ensure a safe and peaceful election.

Earlier, DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented a comprehensive security plan through a PowerPoint presentation. Representatives from various agencies then joined an open discussion and shared their views.

Among others, DMP Additional Commissioners SN Md Nazrul Islam (Crime and Operations), Hasan Md Shawkat Ali (Logistics, Finance and Procurement), Md Masud Karim (CTTC), Md Shafiqul Islam (Detective Branch), Md Zillur Rahman (Traffic), along with Joint Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and other senior officials were present.

Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, chief returning officer of the DUCSU Election Commission Prof Mohammad Jasim Uddin, assistant returning officers, student representatives, members of intelligence agencies, representatives from specialised police units, Fire Service and other government service agencies were also present in the morning.
