Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md Shafiqul Islam on Saturday said the law enforcers are on alert position and security has been beefed up for National Mourning Day.

He said, “In coordination with other law enforcement agencies, we have taken proper security arrangement to ensure that the National Mourning Day program is celebrated with due dignity and security.”

He also said every person who will come to pay homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu would be searched through the archway at the check post. The DMP Commissioner came up with the assertion while speaking at a press briefing in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the city on Saturday after inspecting security arrangements for the National Mourning Day, which will be observed across the country on Sunday.

The Bangabandhu Museum and Banani graveyard will be fully covered by CCTV cameras and we will sweep these two venues with DMP's dog squads, he added.

No one will be allowed to enter the venue as long as the Prime Minister is in the venue. He urged all to cooperate with the police in this regard.

None will be allowed to enter the venue except wearing a mask. He also urged visitors to leave the venue as soon as possible after paying homage.

Various political and social organisations across the city would organise different programmes.

Responding to a question of the reporters about possible militant attack on the National Mourning Day, the DMP commissioner said the militants are active in the cyber world. Some militant groups are misleading people to fight for the Taliban in Afghanistan through cyber world.

Some Bangladeshi people were arrested by Indian intelligence while trying to reach Afghanistan on foot or by road, the DMP chief disclosed.

All the law enforcement agencies including DMP have been working relentlessly to monitor the various activities of the militants.

DMP's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit is continuously monitoring the activities of militants in the cyber world through cyber patrolling, he added.

Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Krishna Pad Roy, Additional Commissioner (DB) AKM Hafeez Akter, Additional Commissioner (CTTC) Md. Asaduzzaman and other senior DMP officials were also present at the briefing.
