DMP arrests 43 for selling, consuming drugs in city

As part of the anti-drug drives in the capital, the members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested a total of 43 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs. The people were arrested during separate drives for 24 hours till 6:00 am on Friday (December 22, 2023).

According to a press release issued by the DMP on Friday, police conducted these operations against the drug sellers and consumers in different areas under various police stations in Dhaka city. 

The law enforcers also detained a total of 43 drug traffickers and recovered huge drugs from possessions of the detainees from 6am of December 21 to 6:00 am on Friday.

During the anti-drug raids, police seized 13,132 pieces of contraband yaba tablets, 31 grams of heroine, 17.480 kilograms of cannabis (ganja), 10 bottles of phensidyl syrup and four bottles of foreign made liquor from their possessions, says the press release of DMP. 

Police filed 32 separate cases against the arrestees in these connections with respective police stations under the Narcotics Control Act.

DMP said that the anti-drug drives will continue against the drug users and traders. 

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a notorious drug dealer and armed terrorist from Kadamtoli area of the capital.

RAB-10 Deputy Director Aminul Islam confirmed the matter to the media. 

The arrested is Md Monir Hossain, 51, son of late Shahjahan of East Jurain area of the capital.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-10 arrested him from the East Jurain area of Kadamtoli police station at 6:30 pm on Thursday.

RAB seized one pistol, one magazine, two rounds of cartridge, two walkie-talkie wireless sets, two walkie-talkie set chargers, 200 grams of ganja and Taka 57,000 in cash from his possession.

Legal action has been taken in this regard.
