DMCH ready to treat Covid-19 patients

All sorts of arrangements have been completed for treating corona patients in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Unit-2. The treatment will be started from today (Saturday).

On the other hand, the general patients can get health services and treatment at the main building of the hospital.
Authorities concerned said, Corona and general patients would be treated at the same time but in different places. Arrangements have been made to treat some 750 corona patients at the same time in the hospital.

In addition, patients with corona who need surgery will be taken to the burn unit.
Dhaka Medical College Principal Prof Khan Md. Abul Kalam Azad said that Intensive Care Unit (ICU) system is in the main building of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Some 10 ICU beds are being placed in Unit-2 as well, he added.

However, if a large number of patients get admitted, it will be very difficult to provide ICU support. In that case, oxygen support will be given. There is a central oxygen supply system, he added

He further mentioned that, everyone will work under the leadership of specialist doctors in three shifts.
Physicians, nurses and general staff members will work in three shifts. Each will be quarantined for 14 days after seven days of duty at a stretch. They will go home once they are tested negative for Covid-19.

Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin said, “The main building will be available for emergency treatment to general patients for the time being. That means those who are not infected with corona will be treated too. There will be no incidents of negligence to patients’ treatment. All types of treatment including medicine, heart disease, cancer will be given here.”
