A series of divisional workshops on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) localisation has brought together policymakers, activists, journalists, and young leaders to strengthen women’s leadership and participation in public life.

The workshops were held in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Rajshahi under the project titled “Enhancing Women’s Participation and Leadership in Public Life”, implemented by Naripokkho with support from UN Women.

A total of 110 participants attended the workshops, including members of divisional SDG committees from government and non-government sectors, representatives of organisations working on women’s political rights, journalists, civil society members, regional political leaders, project mentors, and young women leaders.

The sessions focused on the localisation and implementation of SDGs 5 and 16 in the context of Bangladesh, with particular emphasis on gender equality, inclusive governance, and women’s participation in decision-making processes.

The sessions on SDG were moderated by Naripokkho member Samia Afrin. Dr Nazmun Nahar, EC Committee Member, Naripokkho introduced the organisation, while the Project Director Nasima Akter presented the project overview and facilitated the workshops.

Through participatory discussions and group exercises, participants developed recommendations for the government, explored the responsibilities of citizens, and outlined expectations from young women leaders in promoting gender-inclusive leadership.

Young women leaders involved in the project also shared their personal experiences and leadership journeys, inspiring fellow participants with their stories of growth and success.

According to the organisers, the workshops created a valuable platform for mutual learning, collaboration, and networking, which will contribute to advancing women’s leadership in public life.
