The Dhaka International Trade Fair witnessed a surge in visitors on its 27th day, particularly noticeable on this last Friday of the month-long event. Traders report a steady increase in buyer presence throughout the day, attributing the elevated numbers to the weekend effect.
Despite a delayed start due to the 12th National Parliament election, the trade fair has gained momentum as it nears its conclusion on February 20.
As the clock ticks down, sellers are offering last-minute discounts to attract buyers. However, some report lower-than-expected sales, especially in the category of warm clothing where discounts on items like a Tk 4,000 blazer, now priced at Tk 1,500.
Expressing concern over dwindling sales, traders are urging for an extension of the fair duration. Noting that warm clothing sales have significantly declined, some sellers argue that extending the fair could provide an opportunity to compensate for losses. The overall sentiment among traders is that this year's sales have not met expectations, and an extension might help recover some ground.
While jewelry and food stalls are experiencing a steady stream of visitors, sales in these segments are reportedly not meeting the anticipated levels. The disparity in sales across different categories has added to the complexity of this year's trade fair dynamics.
However, different furniture outlets have also witnessed surge in visitors during the weekend. Various popular furniture brands including Regal has come up with varieties of furniture with new designs at the trade fair. However, Regal offers up to 25 percent discount on purchasing products from their fair showroom.
Chitto Ronjon, Head of Marketing at Regal Furniture said, “We have brought quality, durable and stylist furniture keeping in mind the preferences and affordability of the customers. Customers are enjoying up to 25 percent discount on selected items apart from 10 percent flat discount on all items.”
The 28th Dhaka International Trade Fair, situated at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center, will continue until February 20, operating from 10 am to 9 pm daily, with an extended schedule until 10 pm on holidays. Despite the mixed sales and calls for an extension, the fair remains a focal point for traders and buyers alike in the bustling capital.
