A pond widely known as Jeus Pukur located at Deobhog area under Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) has become a matter of discord between NCC and Hindu community.
Narayanganj city Corporation has been claiming that the pond is the property of City Corporation while the Hindu community brushes the demand by insisting with some documents that the pond is a devoted property to God.
In this regard, City Awami League General Secretary Advocate Khokon Shaha has already led the Hindu community to bring out a demonstration against NCC. However, the city corporation is determined to earth-fill the pond and turn it into usable land.
Various processions have been staged against City Corporation demanding discontinuation of the occupying of Jeus pukur, as it is a devoted land to God.
In the procession against NCC some leader delivered indecent language against City Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy which was published in the media and thus she has filed a case under cybercrime act.
On the other hand, although one and a half year have elapsed since an incident of clash between city corporation workers and some footpath hawkers and hoodlums, where Mayor Ivy was injured, AL activist Niyamul Islam filed a case against Ivy’s relatives, who are also AL post holders in this connection.
Narayanganj inhabitant observed the matter seriously and apprehending that if issue is not concluded according to law, any untoward incident might take place anytime in the town between the ruling party’s leaders.
