Disaster management meeting held in advance of cyclone ‘Remal’

The disaster management committee met for the first time in preparation for Cyclone “Remal” at the Satkhira district administration. 

On Thursday afternoon, officials from upazilas and districts convened for a preparatory session led by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Humayun Kabir.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Humayun Kabir declared, “Comprehensive preparations are underway to tackle Cyclone Remal.” It was decided to revoke the leave of all government department officials in the district for Friday and Saturday. 

Additionally, measures were outlined to identify and reinforce vulnerable embankments in coastal areas using sand and geo bags, along with the preparation of shelter centres in high-risk localities. As per the District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer’s office, 887 educational institutions, including 169 shelter centres, are being prepared for potential use in dealing with Cyclone ‘Remal’. 

Moreover, a contingency fund of 5 lakh 25 thousand taka has been allocated for emergency relief efforts, complemented by the mobilization of 6 thousand volunteers for swift response operations.

Important officials include Deputy Director Mashruba Ferdous of the Local Government Department Satkhira, Executive Engineer Md Salauddin of the Water Development Board Division-1, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarwar Hossain and members of the District Disaster Management Committee were also present at the preparatory meeting.
