The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has directed government primary schools and offices of the country to observe Sheikh Russel Day on October 18.

The directive was issued in a DPE office order on Tuesday.

Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and younger brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on 18 October 1964. This day has been directed to be observed as Sheikh Russel Day.

The order said government primary schools and concerned departments would have to take necessary steps to observe October 18 as Sheikh Russel Day in line with the directives of the Cabinet Division.

DPE also asked all the departments and institutions under the district primary education officer to inform about the implementation of the directive. “PTI Superintendents will inform all the departments and institutions under him. Upazila and Thana Education Officers and URC instructors will inform his subordinates,” the order further said.
