Takendow player Dipu Chakma won the first gold medal for Bangladesh in the 13th SA Games when he topped poomsae 29-Plus category in Kathmandu on Monday. Karate player Humayra Akter Anatara won the first medal for Bangladesh earlier in the Games securing a bronze in women’s individual kata event
Pakistan and Nepal won gold and silver medal in the event respectively. Hasan Khan later won bronze for Bangladesh in men’s individual kata event. The regional sporting carnival got underway on Sunday concurrently in three Nepalese cities Kathmandu, Pokhara and Janakpur with athletes from Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka competing for glory in 26 different sporting disciplines. A total of 462 athletes, 263 male and 199 female athletes are participating from Bangladesh in all but triathlon discipline.
