Bahadur Bazar, the commercial hub of Dinajpur town, is in a dire situation since long due to prolonged negligence of concerned authorities.
Even after repeated urgings of the traders of Bahadur bazar to save this important business place, the authorities concerned are yet to take any visible step.
Mentionable, Bahadur Bazar, the center of the town, is also the busiest place of Dinajpur.
Traders of Banhadur Bazar said most of the people are accustomed to purchase their daily commodities from here; but it is a matter of great regret that the environment of Bahadur Bazar is worsening day by day.
During spot visit at the commercial area recently it was found that the whole marketplace is spotted with dumped wastages on streets. Unhygienic atmosphere of the kitchen market of Bahadur Bazar, especially the fish, chicken and meat sections, is beyond description. A stench emitting from the kitchen market reigns over the whole area continuously. Buyers are forced to cover up their noses with hands or handkerchiefs.
The whole marketplace is muddy here and there. There is no drainage system inside the market which creates serious waterlogging in the market even after a small downpour, creating immense sufferings for the people.
Banana and vegetables market is on the southern side of the Bazar. Vendors at times scatter heavily on both sides of the Paharpur roadThis uncontrolled market is overlapped to busiest streets of the town, from Lilymor to Butibabumor intersections, creating acute traffic jam day by day. Rickshaw and autos cannot cross the road easily in the morning.
In the north side of the Bazar, vegetables vendor and wholesale traders have set up their makeshift stalls on the road.
Sources said people suffer most due to the makeshift stalls of wholesale and retail traders on the road. The people cannot cross the road on foot easily. It is barely impossible to go on foot from due to vegetable market at North-east side of the bazar. There is no drainage system release the water. In the rainy season, the water is stored inside and outside the market due to the slight rain. The market committee just does not pay heed to the sufferings of pedestrians as well as traders and buyers of the market. Since long, they are continuing to show their utter indifference.
Meanwhile, the condition of the old Bahadur Bazar is even worse. In the western part of the Bazar, the wholesalers, retailers and hawkers have set up their stalls without maintain any discipline or following any particular plan.
In addition, there are seen some rod, cement, raw materials and export-import trader’s shops. The pickup vans and trucks, parked on the road, load and unload materials all through the day, contributing to the already unbearable traffic jam.
Consumers have turned into a plaything at the hands of those unscrupulous traders who do not pay heed to whatever is told. Instead of admitting their faults they always exercise power by dint of their leaders. If they are asked about the matter they threat the people.
On the other side, from Bahadur Bazar to Abdur Rahim Supermarket, the street has been littered with mobile fruit shops. The dirt pile appears to be falling here from 10 am to 11 am. As a result, a sharp traffic jam has been created in the streets.
The General Secretary of Kacha Bazar Business Association of Dinajpur Bahadur Bazar said, the condition of the market is good. I do not see anything bad.
In order to bring back the beautiful and clean environment of the Bazar, the people of the area want the interference with the National Consumer Rights, Dinajpur Municipality Mayor and the Deputy Commissioner to solve these problems.
