Dinajpur Railway Police Station lies in dire straits

Published : 29 Jun 2025 09:18 PM

Caught in a web of decades-long neglect since the British colonial era, the Dinajpur Railway Police Station remains in a state of operational paralysis due to the lack of proper infrastructure and transport facilities.

There is no arrangement for the movement or parking of police vans or motorcycles within the premises. As a result, police personnel including officers are forced to perform their duties with great difficulty, often having to navigate the congested Dinajpur railway station area on foot.

The station's jurisdiction extends from Parbatipur Outer to Panchagarh and from Radhikapur to Dinajpur Railway Station, covering nearly 150 kilometers. During accidents involving train-related injuries or fatalities, officers struggle to transport victims to hospitals due to the lack of emergency transport facilities.

Frequent complaints from railway passengers and lack of public awareness about the condition of the station further complicate the duties of the Government Railway Police (GRP). Officers must often tread through muddy, rocky paths from Shoshti Tola Mor to the railway tracks to reach the station. The complete absence of a proper access road has also led to public misunderstanding and unwarranted criticism of the police force.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdul Mannan stated, “The lack of infrastructure and transport facilities poses serious challenges to the smooth execution of our duties. Without vehicle access, it becomes very difficult to respond promptly to emergencies or perform daily operations efficiently.”

He further emphasised the urgent need for proper road access and designated vehicle parking to enhance the effectiveness of the police force.

Despite repeated appeals, no significant steps have been taken to modernise the station or address its logistical challenges. The local community and police officials now seek the immediate attention of the Bangladesh Railway Adviser to resolve these longstanding issues.

They strongly believe that the modernisation of the Dinajpur Railway Police Station including improved access roads and parking facilities would significantly boost law enforcement efficiency and improve public safety across the region.
