‘Digital payment system will reduce harassment at Ctg Port’

Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain said introduction of digital payment system at Chattogram Port will reduce harassment for users in getting services. 

The digital payment system will play a major role in the modernization of the port. The introduction of this service has brought about a revolutionary change in the toll payment system.This automatic, safe and transparent digital payment system has been launched in collaboration with Chattogram Port Authority and Eastern Bank Limited (EBL).

He said that bad and unhealthy propaganda has been spread about Chattogram Port. Various propaganda is going on. But no such incident has happened. No one has lost their job from the port, nor will they in the future.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a function at Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View Hotel in Chattogram City on Saturday evening.

The function was officially inaugurated the digital payment platform of Chattogram Port.

Shipping adviser said, "I have seen how foreign ports work. Accordingly, we want to work with all ports, not just Chattogram Port. For this, we are preparing a maritime sea port management and development strategy (Maritime Sea Port Strategy).

He said, the World Bank is investing $680 million in the construction of breakwaters in the Bay Terminal project of Chattogram Port. A project director has already been appointed. World-class foreign organizations are working there.

Speaking as a special guest at the event, Chattogram City Mayor Shahadat Hossain said, "With the introduction of the digital payment system, the port will undoubtedly move forward a lot. This will free users from bureaucratic complications and obstacles."

EBL Managing Director Ali Reza Iftekhar said, "History has been made today. For decades, port users used to work manually, which was very time-consuming. Those days are coming to an end from today."

Chattogram Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman said, "Although our current payment system is quite efficient, it is mainly based on manual methods."  

Through our partnership with Eastern Bank, we have been able to offer a fully automated, secure and transparent payment framework.

According to the EBL press release, through this platform, customers will be able to easily complete VAT, AIT, welfare charges and other payments from anywhere. 

This will ensure automatic payment of fees. Transparency will also be ensured in the case of audits. And port congestion and operational costs will also be reduced.

Jabedul Alam, Head of Digital Financial Services Ahsan Ullah Chowdhury and Head of Communications and External Affairs Ziaul Karim were present at the event.
