Digital Korbani Hat is set to sell one lakh sacrificial animals on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, which was 27000 last time.
With this it is expected that this will help people to avoid gatherings at the markets and will also help to reduce Covid-19 transmission.
The e-commerce Association of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Dairy Farm Association are implementing this year's digital hat under Dhaka North City Corporation as per the directions of the Ministry of Commerce in collaboration with Business Promotion Council and A2I-Expo.
Due to the pandemic, online sale of animals is being given priority this time. It was said in the discussion that 27000 animals were sold from different platforms across the country last year and this time the target is 1 lakh animals.
The hat was inaugurated by Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam as the Chief Guest.
Tajul Islam said, "Government services are becoming more modern day by day and its benefits are reaching the doorsteps of the people. People will get a big help to get protection from the Corona epidemic by buying animals online. The Prime Minister has made progress in various areas due to her ICT-oriented policy and by working together by involving the private and public sectors."
The benefits of Digital Bangladesh will reach door to door by changing the daily life of the common man with the help of technology, he added.
Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mostafa Jabbar said, "Today's digital service of Digital Bangladesh has been extended to the sale of sacrificial cows. This digital cow market will be an example of the technology that the people of Bangladesh can adopt. We are moving forward through the use of digital technology in all areas of life. This improvement of Bangladesh is to be followed today."
Fisheries and Livestock Minister S M Rezaul Karim said, "There are 41 crore cattle in the country and 11 million animals are ready for sacrifice. Like last year, there is no need to import cows from outside the country. The government will take initiative to build a scientific and modern slaughter house to protect the skin and protect the environment."
Dhaka City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam said, "This digital hat has to be implemented by facing many challenges. We have engaged the public and private parties for its proper implementation. The Ministry of Commerce has prepared a guideline for the confidence and security of buyers and sellers and we are also covering the issue of financial security through Bangladesh Bank and Ekshop."
He hoped that this time 1 lakh people will buy cows online. He said arrangements have been made for the slaughtering of 1,000 cows under the management of DNCC.
Information Minister Hasan Mahmud said, "E-commerce has gained popularity day by day. Since public-private capabilities and skills are working together, so here seems to be the safest method for buyers and sellers. The more people can be connected with this service, the more the benefits of Digital Bangladesh will reach people's homes".
The state minister for ICT said," The country is changing because of digital services. 100 million people are doing mobile banking. Students across the country are learning online. Platforms for selling sacrificial animals have already been set up in each district. All platforms need to be built on the same formula to let people know".
He requested to take necessary steps to resolve the grievances of Digital Sacrificial Market as soon as possible.
FBCCI president Jasim Uddin said, "It is a positive aspect that the nature of business in the country is changing with the touch of technology. It is a blessing for the public to shop online instead of going to the sacrificial animal markets at this difficult time of Coronavirus".
