Digital govt services to cut cost, harassment

As digital capabilities improve and connectivity becomes prevalent, the government has decided to bring all its services online from inline through digital services. 

Besides inter-operable digital transactions platform will also be launched to prevent irregularities and reduce costs and harassment in financial transactions.  

All those initiatives are being implemented to ensure transparency and accountability to the country’s people, said State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak. 

He was speaking as chief guest at a program at the ICT Tower in the capital on Sunday. The program was organized as the ICT department became the best in providing public services among all the ministries in ‘Annual Performance Agreement’. 

Palak said that, “To reach all the government services to the peoples’ doorsteps through the information technology is the main philosophy of the Digital Bangladesh. This achievement will motivate us to do more in achieving the goal of building Digital Bangladesh”.

 “The benefits of technology should be availed properly for the welfare of the people. For the overall development of the country’s technology sector and make the young generation skilled the government is now working on four pillars. They are Human Resource Development, Indrasti Promotion, e-government and grassroots connectivity,” Palak added.

The state minister said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT advisor Sajeeb Wazed’s right direction and supervision this success has been possible to achieve. From many countries of the world Bangladesh is ahead in information technology. Due to the proper development of ICT sector in the last 12 years, it also has been possible to continue education, getting medical services, keep operational of agriculture, supply systems, courts and other despite Covid-19 blockade.”    

ICT department senior secretary NM Ziaul Alam presented the keynote paper. Among others present on the occasion were Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority Hosne Ara Begum and Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council Parthapratim Dev, Director General of the Department of Information and Communication Technology B. M. Arshad Hossain and other senior officials of the department. 

It may be mentioned that in the annual performance of 2019-20 financial year, among 51 ministries and departments, ICT department got the first place with the highest score of 94.96.
