Digital business ID launched for safe e-commerce

The government has introduced digital business ID for more safer and secured e-commerce in the country which pledges full transparent and accountable digital transactions. 

The popularity of e-commerce is increasing in ‘Digital Bangladesh’. The government is taking steps to ensure that customers are not deceived and that customer service is ensured. All measures have been taken to ensure digital benefits or services to the people of the country. 

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi made the remarks while addressing a meeting as the chief guest at the inaugural function of Digital Commerce ID for conducting e-commerce business and reviewing the overall issues of digital commerce organized by the Central Digital Commerce Cell of the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday. 

“The people of the country are now enjoying digital services. The government is making efforts to solve the problems of the consumers who have been deceived in e-commerce. The government has also taken action against frauds,” he said.

For customers whose money is deposited in Bangladesh Bank, there is no legal complication. Work is underway to return their money in stages. E-commerce has come under a new approach by providing digital business ID which will greatly reduce fraud in e-commerce, however, consumers also need to be aware of this, he added.

Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman said Bangladesh has gone digital with the special initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The government is working to ensure digital benefits for the people of the country. 

“Necessary steps are being taken so that the people of the country do not fall prey to digital fraudulence. Necessary steps have been taken to identify the problems or opportunities for fraud in the field of e-commerce. For this, all concerned should work with sincerity”, he said.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said, “A number of steps have been taken to curb digital fraudulence in e-commerce. The provision of digital business ID for conducting e-commerce business has started. If everyone involved in conducting e-commerce accepts this ID, there will be no scope of cheating.”

He said, “Necessary steps have been taken to bring e-commerce under strong trust and accountability. A platform is being set up to address any complains of fraudulence. When all this work is done, e-commerce business will be safe.”

The Commerce Minister inaugurated the Digital Business ID for conducting e-commerce business and provided IDs to 11 companies.

The event was presided over by Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Commerce. Siraj Uddin, Director General, Postal Department; Hafizur Rahman, Additional IGP (CID) Barrister Mahbubur Rahman, representatives of Ministry of Industries, Bangladesh Bank, Sami Kaiser, e-Cab president and representatives of concerned e-commerce businessmen were present.
