The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mustafa Jabbar, said that in the digital age, conventional trade and commerce will inevitably transform into digital commerce. The digital age will be the age of cashless society. Following this, the paper civilization is on the verge of extinction. The Minister mentioned that there will be no such thing as paper in the future due to natural and technical reasons.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the Eid Adda organized by e-Cab on digital platform on Thursday night.

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications said that there is no alternative to acquiring digital skills to meet the challenges of the digital age, adding that there is no alternative to taking integrated initiatives to develop digital commerce as a commercial sector. "My own experience shows that trade organizations play a vital role in building a sector," he said. The former BCS president highlighted the initiative of Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS) to revolutionize the development of computer technology in the country. He said that the efforts of BCS to make computers easily available to the public through the repeal of VAT on computers in 1998-99 through a 37-member BCS are the result of a concerted effort by the BCS. Minister Mustafa Jabbar, one of the patrons and advisors of e-Cab, called upon e-Cab to play a leading role as a commercial platform. He says there was a time when e-commerce was not a thing far from digital commerce. But in the period of Coronavirus, people have shown that the cattle market can be online. Describing e-Cab as a pioneer in the transformation of digital commerce in the country, the Minister said that e-Cab should be more diligent in ensuring that consumers are not deceived in any way. "Criminals will commit crimes wherever there is an opportunity - in every case," he said. This applies to sellers as well as buyers. So digital crime has to be tackled with digital technology. The more digitally skilled he is, the more successful the business will be, the minister said. He called upon E-Cab to take initiatives to enhance the skills of its members through training. He emphasized the need to strengthen e-Cab organizationally. He said that now no trade organization can spread the sector across the country by forming a central committee only in Dhaka. BCS has proved how necessary branch committee is. Now the IT business is not only Dhaka-centric - so there has to be a nationwide trade body organization. He urged the e-cabs to build organizational structure and activate them up to the division, district or upazila. He highlighted the various programmes taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the development of digital technology and said that initiatives have already been taken to utilize the huge network of post offices for the development of digital commerce.

Following this, the postal department will be the digital highway for the expansion of digital commerce.

E-CAB President Shami Kaiser presided over the function and General Secretary Abdul Wahab Tamal presided over the function. They discussed various topics related to e-cab and digital commerce. One speaker praised the improved quality of the Internet and said that he was able to attend the meeting from a remote area. He also praised the coronation of the Internet.

Shami Kaiser noted that the unimaginable growth of digital commerce has been achieved in Covid-19 period. She stressed the need to declare digital commerce as an industry.
